You're a Great Team, Warriors!

Congratulations on a great team effort in Kelowna. You pulled together in the women's Platinum Final A Division and narrowly missed a bronze medal.
Wow.

Guess what? We're going to do more than we ever imagined this coming year...and it will pull us together even more than the regattas and the festivals.

Special thanks for the weekend goes to:
Sylvia - our team captain - hail hail
Shelly - our coach - thank you for pulling this group of vagabonds together
Krista - co-captain and steersperson (amazing)

Right side (strong side)
Left side (strong side)
Front side (strong side)
Back side (look at it ride)

and each and every one of the team members who pulled their minds together to work as one.
You rock, WaterWarriors.

Our season begins very shortly! Can you believe it? March is right around the corner! Here's to hoping our seasons will start off on the dryer side this year! We are currently accepting new recruits looking to join our team, and we're looking for ladies who are willing to work hard, commit to our practice schedule, fundraisers, as well as the regattas we decide to go to as a team! We are a recreational team with a competitive spirit, so if you are someone who loves to have fun, make great friendships, work hard and have pride in team accomplishments, we're looking for you! Contact our captain, Sylvia, via email and she will connect you with the team! Sylvia_Luise@shaw.ca

As for our current members, mark this down in your calendar: Outdoor Home and Decor Show - March 27, 28 and 29 This is our major team fundraiser for our year, and vital that we all participate! Jacqui will have all the info at our team meeting, or you can email her with any questions: jacqui_higginbottom@sd33.bc.ca

Deep Cove Races..a day of "firsts"

For most of us, the Deep Cove "Dash for Charity" 200m sprints was a new experience. What a beautiful venue! And to have the race course half the length as a regular race was definitely a nice bonus!

Carey came out and steered her first races! Unfortunately, the only race we have photos of, is the one when the boat got away from us! Poor Carey..we practice on a different type of boat that's heavier and much easier to steer, and to be thrown into a lighter boat with a more unstable steering oar, things happen!
And here's where things happened! Poor Shelly got to practice the "ejection seat" drill when we t-boned another boat at a high speed! Looking back on it now, we are able to laugh at the whole thing!
Here's our lovely coach, fresh outta the water, nice and soaked! And we had 2 more races back to back after that! In the end, we placed 1st in our division, and were 1 of only 2 women's teams to get a time under 1 min.! Go Warriors! We always come through in the end!

Kelowna Regatta 2007

The Water Warriors headed to Kelowna for the final regatta of the season and made some long lasting memories! Tough competition pushed us to really give all we had..and we did! We placed 4th in the top division (Platinum A) and had some very brag worthy times! In the afternoon on Sat., we had an awesome 2:18!! Unbelievable! So proud of ourselves! This picture was taken during the final race, and as you can tell, the conditions of the water was less than desirable, to say the least. Races were postponed 2 hours to wait out the 2 foot swells. Of course, the women were the guinea pigs and sent to try out the new 250m course (from 500m) and showed the mixed teams how it's done! The finals were only raced by the women, and during our final, I was told that the conditions were at it's most dangerous. After we were done, the event organizers cancelled the rest of the races. Guess the boys couldn't hack it..haha
On Sat. nite, we had a "Purple Party" at the hotel on the lawn in the back by the lake, to honor our wonderful and amazing coach! It was a surprise to her, so when we all showed up dressing like purple fools, she felt a bit out of place! We took care of it, and dressed her up in purple! HA Go figure, the one time we EXPECT her to wear purple clothes, she shows up to the party in a yellow and black dress! Murphy's law, of course!

Cultus Lake - A SUCCESS!

What a perfect day for racing! The water was calm, the weather was beautiful, and the Warriors were on fire! We were the only team to come in under 2:30 for all 3 races! First race: 2:24 (fastest of the day out of all teams) Second race: 2:27, Third race: 2:29! No other team came in under 2:30 in the final heat, so we were doing well! It was also a theme day, so we all wore pigtails, cowboy hats, jean skirts/shorts/pants, drawn on cowboy boots..and the creme de la creme: prosthetic teeth!

Our lovely Water Warriors! Team photo at Cultus.
Getting ready to head out for the final race..home turf, home boat! Nice timing ladies!
Time for celebration! WE WON!

Catch up post!

Here's the ladies at Harrison..we placed 1st in the women's competitive 'B' division, and came in with the 3rd fastest overall final women's race time! Great job warriors! And here is something extra special! Because I wasn't at Nanaimo, I wasn't able to take any pictures...BUT..there is a video of the Water Warriors overtaking 3 other teams in the last part of the race to get 1st in the women's 'b' division! Awesome! This is why we are called Warriors!
